Metromont Prestress

Bryan Street Parking Garage

The Bryan Street Parking Garage in Savannah, Georgia was a PCI National Design Award Winner for Best Parking Structure. Hamilton Form provided Metromont Prestress with custom steel forms for this 235,000-square-foot project which uses over 1,000 precast components.

With the building's height of 75 feet and a length of 300 feet, city officials were concerned that it would dominate the landscape. To make sure that the structure did not overpower the surrounding buildings, designers used exposed precast columns to segment the structure into a series of distinct vertical sections that break the building's long horizontal plane.

The facility's exterior design incorporates brick and precast concrete elements to form a structure with high pilasters and window-like openings scaled after those in the surrounding 19th- and 20th-century buildings. Sandblasted precast elements were used to simulate quarried stone, which is typical of the older construction in the area. The framework uses inverted tee beams that support double tee slabs spanning 60 feet across the double-loaded parking bays. Metromont used existing custom steel forms manufactured by Hamilton Form to produce all of the double tees, inverted tee beams and columns for the project.
